Teenagers Explore Overseas Chinese Culture and Intangible Heritage

On May 17, Qingtian County Children's Palace held the themed practical activity "Tracing Cultural Veins of the Overseas Chinese Hometown, Passing Down the Torch of Intangible Cultural Heritage". Young members from the First Squadron of the 14th Session Captain School walked out of classrooms. Through field visits, guided tours, interactive experiences and reflection sharing, they traced Qingtian's history, appreciated the charm of intangible cultural heritage, deeply experienced the profound heritage of the overseas Chinese hometown, and consolidated the foundation of cultural confidence.

The members first visited Qingtian Museum on the 7th floor of the County Convention and Exhibition Center to start their historical exploration journey. Prehistoric unearthed relics, traditional folk utensils, precious historical and cultural exhibits and urban development documentary materials were orderly displayed inside, fully showcasing Qingtian's millennial cultural heritage, the century-long struggle of overseas Chinese and the city's evolutionary changes. Under the interpreter's guidance, the members listened carefully and studied attentively. They gained an in-depth understanding of their hometown's development context from ancient times to the present, and truly appreciated the valuable spirit of hard work and courage of generations of overseas Chinese hometown people.

Afterwards, the members headed to Qingtian Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum on the 8th floor to view local intangible cultural heritage treasures. A variety of distinctive heritage items including stone carving craftsmanship, "Hundred Birds Lantern Dance" and fish lantern making were presented one by one. Through physical exhibits, scene restoration and skill demonstrations, traditional culture became visible, perceptible and learnable.

The fruitful study tour brought every member abundant gains and profound insights. All members said this mobile classroom gave them a brand-new and in-depth understanding of their hometown's history, culture and intangible heritage skills.

Going forward, Qingtian County Children's Palace will continue to leverage distinctive local overseas Chinese and intangible cultural heritage resources, deepen its role as a practical education base, and regularly organize diverse study tour activities. It will continuously innovate educational forms and enrich educational connotations, guiding children and teenagers to take root in their hometown, inherit the cultural torch, and grow into aspiring, responsible and compassionate young people of the new era in this overseas Chinese hometown.
